Continuity Exercise Evaluation
Continuity: When continuity is broken it can question the film/film making and when the continuity isn't broken the audience never question the film or film making.
I feel that the continuity of our piece flows well. I also think the camera shots were good and fluent but there was some continuity errors for example at 0:23 where Matt has the case in his left hand where throughout the whole of the short but we had to flip the footage to make it look like he was still walking in the same direction as he he was in the clips beforehand. One major error is from 0:42 - 1:00 which everybody in group made and that was having bags on the table in the background and also Ellie in the background for a little bit. We only noticed this whilst we was editing and tried to cut as much out as possible. As well as some of the errors pointed out there was also positives as well. The positive feedback was that we had good shots through out the short and that it flowed really well, we made sure we used all the shots we had to use to make it as good as it could get and making sure there wasn't anything in there we didn't need that would slow it down.
Mise-en-scene: Mise-en-scene is what is in the scene e.g. Lighting, Costume, Props
We used a two props in the short, a briefcase which was used all the time and a gun which was used 1:02 - 1:05. We used a briefcase because it caused tension through out and confusion as well over what was inside it, we used a gun to create tension also but we made it comical because we was meant to use a rubber duck so instead of a gun shot we used a "quack". this doesn't make it as tense but to get the audience to laugh as its something you wouldn't expect.
The setting we used was in the college corridors and class room but the way we built it up didn't seem as if it was in a college but in some sort of business building and that Matt was heading towards an office to visit somebody. We used a class room to act as an office so it was tense as well because somebody walking to an office with a briefcase is quite serious. I think this worked well but we need to make sure everything in the background is clear as there was bags and Ellie.
Over the course of shooting this short we made sure that the clothes the characters used were the same so it didn't cause any continuity errors.
In our short we wanted it to be serious as well as comical, so in the build up to opening the briefcase we made sure that our facial expressions matched the mood. So Matt had to keep a serious face as whilst walking to the office and when he got to the office he had to keep the face serious as I was opening the briefcase. I had to keep a serious and also cunning face to match the mood as well. We used these facial expressions to show and create tension between us and I think we both done this well.
As well as facial expressions show the mood and tension body language has to as well. Again in the build up to the office Matt had to walk in a serious manner because if he was to walk slouched way if wouldn't have had the same effect as him walking seriously. When Matt was in the office he had to stand up right as well to show this was something serious happening, I had to sit up right so it could get across that it was something serious as well. I think our body language helped us get across to the audience that there was something tense about to happen which is what we wanted to get the audience to think.
I think our choice of lighting was good in some areas but could have been improved on. We shot the short in the day time so it gave us natural light so we didn't have to play around with the lighting so much at the beginning because it was a good light to start off with, although we did make it a bit brighter. When Matt walked into a darker corridor we made the lighting a little bit brighter from 0:23 - 0:27 but when we had an eye level shot we made the corridor a bit darker so it was more tense building up to Matt handing the briefcase over. When Matt entered the room we used the lighting that was from the room, this is where I think we should have made the room darker as it was at a tense point instead of having the room really bright but apart from that I think the lighting was good.

Wealth: The way that the camera is placed to show the person looking in his wallet suggests that he has lots of money. The low angle shot symbolizes that the person has power.. |
Weakness: The weakness is shown in a Dutch angle close up. This shows the emotion on the face of the person and he cant escape from this weakness. |
Purity: The image shows purity through the tiles being dirty whilst there is one in the center that stands out from the rest which gives it a pure look. this is a high angle shot. |
Greed: The image is shot in a medium shot which shows the person throwing money away and he is laughing about it as if to say it doesn't bother him as he has plenty anyway. |
Strength: In this picture it is clear he is a GYM LAD. So the person is obviously strong lifting the dumbbells and from the low angle shot it shows he has power. |
