Research and Planning: E4 and the Brief

Who owns E4?
E4 is owned by Channel 4 which is a publicly-owned, commercially-funded public service broadcaster.

How long have E4 existed?
E4 was first launched on the 18th January 2001 and its is now in its 14th year of running on television.

What programmes are shown regularly on E4?
The regular programs shown on E4 are The Big Bang Theory, Melissa & Joey, Made in Chelsea, How I Met Your Mother and many more.

Who is the target audience for E4?
E4's priamry target audience is predominantly young and between the ages of 16-24 and are dominantly female. Their secondary target audience would be viewers from 25-40 and also males.

All these channels are aimed at the same age ranges from 16-40.

What is an E Sting and what is its purpose? 
An E sting is a 10 second or less piece of animation that is put on during adverts and it includes the E4 logo. The purpose for it is to show off animation to the viewers and it gives the animators a good opportunity to show what they can do.

Analyse three genuine E Stings for: genre; audience and content



The genre of this Esting is comedy because Sloths becomes DJ's and the primary audience is teenagers and most teenagers will find this funny.



I think the genre of this is comedy because the character thinks he has fixed the E4 light/billboard but it breaks and that makes him fall of his ladder.


I liked these chosen Estings because they are very different to estings that have been created before, also they are both comical and I think that they have met the primary audience in these as well.
